Description
This is a two walled box I call a pod, because it reminds me of certain types of seed pods. I call this a Mini Green, because it is the smallest of the green boxes in my inventory and the name seemed appropriate. You can call it whatever you want and use it to store small items or quantities of special things. It was bandsawn from a block of incense cedar that is known for its strong but clean odor. I hand carved the box lid and exterior of the box with gouges; I often get my carving ideas while listening to music….I truly don’t know where this pattern came from though several are similar, done on the same day?..go figure. I also carved some groovy fingerholds on the lid sides, fun and a bit practical too, though that thought didn’t enter my mind at the time. I finished this one both inside and out with milk paint; green outside and mellow yellow inside. I made the outside coats a bit thin to allow a little hint of the wood color to show thru; fear not, it is all topcoated with polyurethane for finish protection. Some natural inclusions may be found in this box such as knots, small cracks and checks that do not compromise the integrity of the piece. I carve my sign in the bottom of each box so you will always remember who cut, shaped, carved, and finished this small fine piece.
